So I have about 35 followers and I always tweet stuff like "what is everyone up to today?" and even send some direct messages but no one ever answers me, even if the message is asking something direct. Is this because they’re spam and only respond if my tweet mentions something specific? How can I get rid of the spam followers? It upsets me that people are following me if all they want is to sell their crap to me. I thought the purpose of Twitter was to keep up with friends.
They may be spam bots but it depends on how active they are; if they come on Twitter once a week or so, you probably won’t be getting a reply. Or, if they’re still trying to figure it out (AKA n00bs). Well you say you have 35 followers, have you ever tried clicking the number and actually LOOKED at your followers? You can easily detect a spam bot from an actual person; if you would like to get rid of them, click on their profile, look on the left side of their profile and click on "block username", this prevents them from having contact with you.
Lately however, Twitter has increased it’s security; most of the spam bot’s accounts will be deleted within a week. The only downfall is that they keep coming back! All I can say is, just keep blocking them.
If you would like someone to talk to, @reply to me anytime; I answer all tweets and I like to try and actually converse with people.
Happy tweeting!

I started using twitter and now i cant see the people following me. on my main page it says i have three followers but when i click on my followers nothing comes up. is there a way to block the followers from my page?
All I can say is it’s a known problem, I can’t see any of my followers - I don’t even know who they are.
I hope this is more helpful than posting a link to some stupid website that hasn’t been updated in a year like the other guy did.

I have people who I have blocked in Twitter. They are still showing up on my followers list as blocked. They are still being counted as followers. Is there a way to remove these people from that list for good?
The blocked people have been on my list for at least 2 weeks. I tried reading Twitter’s help page but it’s a joke.
Found the solution elsewhere. Yes, they can be removed. If they don’t come off immediately now, just unblock and reblock them. I finally got 20+ people off my list doing that yesterday. This morning, I blocked them once and they were gone. Twitter must have been working on the site since I noticed it. Glad it’s fixed.
My friend is having this problem too..she said she checked the Twitter Announcment board page or whatever and it said they are having some technicle difficulties with the site so things aren’t working properly but they should be back to normal soon.
So just wait it out for a day and maybe tomorrow they’ll be taken off–or you could contact Twitter to see if something else is going on.
Hope it helps!
[you could also just @reply the person and ask them to please stop following you]

My follower count has remained idle for the last few weeks and HOW do you get more followers??
By engaging with people. It’s not about gaining a quantity of followers but having a quality of followers. Having good relations with your followers usually results in them recommending you to others and you build from a solid reputation.

i have seen people that have around 500 followers and they are not even famous..
btw my twitter is http://www.twitter.com/beatalks2cats
well getting famous is one way to get more followers but like the first answerer said, being yourself is the most practical way. you could also follow normal, average ppl whose tweets you find entertaining. also post quality, original tweets that others might find of interest. but having your own voice and personality showing on your page will make others want to keep checking up on u so just be yourself!
